Specialty BabelTubes are pre-assembled, usually only for specific interface types. They offer specialized functionality over and above simply bridging the interfaces.

There is currently only one specialty BabelTube available: | BinaryXML | A BabelTube created to enhance XML-based interoperability (such as SOAP), by enabling a more secure and efficient binary transmission protocol, without requiring changes to the existing interfaces. BinaryXML BabelTubes have been designed from the outset for high overhead, high complexity XML transaction architectures, for example involving complex web service interactions. They have been shown to reduce the size of transmitted XML payloads by up to 80%. While useful in generally optimising XML based application infrastructure, they are especially effective in scenarios where bandwidth is restricted or expensive. |
Note: Only the Java-native BinaryXML BabelTube runtime is currently available.
.NET native BAbelTubes are scheduled for release in Q1 2011.
